Game Bird Management

Waterfowl | Dove | Quail | Turkey

After what seems like hours of standing thigh deep in the dark flooded timber, first light is finally here. For duck hunters, nothing is more majestic than the sound of whistling wings overhead and light swooshes as ducks land in the decoys just before shooting hours. They seem to be like bees and coming from everywhere. As daylight breaks you make your first shot on a drake Widgeon as the tight flock locks up to land in the decoys. This is what it is all about!

Whether you are managing a beaver pond for woodies or a full scale series of waterfowl impoundments, Westervelt can help you design, create, and manage your property to maximize its waterfowl potential. Like turkeys and quail, waterfowl have specific habitat requirements. Westervelt has biologists that "live and breath to duck hunt" and specialize in habitat and duck pond management for waterfowl and can assist you with identifying, creating, designing, and managing waterfowl habitats to help you attract and hold ducks on your property.

Westervelt's waterfowl management services include:

  • Duck pond identification, design and creation
  • Beaver pond management
  • Moist Soil Impoundment management (native wetland plant management strategy)
  • Flooded agriculture management
  • Green Tree Reservoir management (flood timber impoundments)
  • Wood duck nest box installation and monitoring
  • Duck pond planting plans and implementation
  • Guidance on setting your pond or wetland up for optimal hunting opportunities
